Obituary of Lawrence Lewis

Dr. Laurence (Larry) Lewis, 86 years old, passed away in Glen Cove Hospital Friday, February 2, 2024 due to complications of COVID and dementia.

Larry was born in Andover, MA on June 3, 1937 to parents Roger and Helen (Newton) Lewis. He grew up on their farm with his younger siblings Russell (deceased 2014) and Patricia and after attending his local one room schoolhouse for many years, Larry continued his education at Phillips Academy (Andover) as a day student. Larry then attended Teacher’s College at Columbia University in New York City where the majority of the rest of his life was based.  

A lover of knowledge and learning, Larry held various positions until settling on his life’s work and passion in the field of psychology. Larry held a PHD in psychology, and had a thriving private practice for many decades, and never stopped learning new ways to understand the human brain in his quest to help his patients.

A lover of life, learning and love, Larry was also a self proclaimed ‘hopeless romantic’ and married six times. He is survived by his wife Doris Urrea with whom he shared 26 years of love and laughter with up until his death. His memory lives on in the lives of his children Matthew and Anna and his grandchildren Maya, Chloe, Aaron, Adeline and Zev and in the lives of all he touched with his intellect, humor and generosity.
